She’s spilling her secrets! The Hills and Laguna Beach alum Lo Bosworth has been doing a lot of traveling lately as part of her new partnership with McCormick‘s Flavor Forecast as a Flavor Seeker, where she travels the country in search of all the latest food trends. The 32-year-old exclusively opened up to Life & Style about her fave tips for travel, beauty while traveling and how to snap that perfect, Insta-worthy food pic — but she also opened up about who she spends the most time with whenever she gets a chance to go back home to Laguna Beach.

“Mostly when I go home, I go home to see my family,” Lo exclusively revealed to Life & Style. “My parents live in Laguna. I’ve been in New York since 2012. I still keep in touch with everybody, but definitely, when I’m home, it’s to see my family and to spend time with them.”

And it looks like Lo is going to be doing a lot more traveling this year as a Flavor Seeker. Her first stop on her United States food tour was to Austin, Texas, where she got to try one of the biggest food trends of 2019: seeds! “I had such a good time in Austin. It’s such an interesting combination of the New York food scene with the land and the space of L.A., it’s a really laid back vibe,” Lo revealed. “I saw seeds pop up in cuisine at every restaurant I was at. Some of the trends that we saw were black and white sesame seeds, lotus seed and basil seeds. So I’m really excited about all three.”

Since she’s a seasoned traveler, Lo has racked up a ton of tricks and tips over the years. One of her favorite things to do while planning a vacay is to use Instagram as a tool for researching your destination. “All you have to do is look up a place by a geotag and you will find so much content about restaurants or tourist destinations, museums, places to sightsee. And so it’s actually a really great place to get information or to like build out a travel schedule,” Lo explained. “And that’s another thing that I started doing when I’ve been traveling over the past couple of years. I used to go to a place and just sort of figure it out along the way. But now I really do enjoy having to travel itinerary because my trip is so much more fulfilling in that way.”

Another one of Lo’s fave tips is to bring a salad with you to the airport — which is a healthier option than airplane food. Her go-to salad is a Sweetgreen premium salad with dressing on the side.

To make sure you arrive at your destination as fresh-faced as possible, Lo has a secret! “I try to bring at least 24 ounces of water with me on an airplane at a minimum and drink it all,” Lo said, explaining how important it is to stay hydrated. “That’s my number one priority. And then you hear a lot of women using face masks on airplanes now and I’m definitely one of those women. Your skin can get so dry. And so I love to bring a face mask or just slather on a bunch of lotion when I’m on that airplane.”

Once you arrive at your destination, it’s time to head off to your first food spot of the trip and of course, you gotta grab a shot of your plate for Instagram. But how do you get that perfect, influencer-worthy food pic? Lo’s secret is a selfie ring light. “Attaching that and putting it on a low setting is a great way to get a food photo without any shadow or anything like that,” she revealed.
