Meghan Markle’s Father Shared His Reaction to the Royal Wedding: “My Baby Looks Beautiful”
Even though Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, was unable to attend the royal wedding, he was still cheering on his daughter from California. According to TMZ, Thomas said he was "emotional and joyful" watching the ceremony live on TV. "My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy," he shared. "I wish I was there and I wish them all my love and happiness."
As previously reported by Life & Style, Thomas had to miss Meghan and Prince Harry's wedding to "focus on his health" after undergoing emergency heart surgery. Meghan released a statement via Kensington Palace on Thursday, May 17, to confirm the sad news.
"Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health," she said. "I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday."
Thomas had the operation on Wednesday, May 16, a few days after suffering a heart attack. He told TMZ at the time that he hated "the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history," and was looking forward to walking Meghan down the aisle. Since her father was no longer able to attend, Meghan boldly walked herself down the aisle — with a group of little bridesmaids and page boys (including Prince George and Princess Charlotte) trailing behind her. Halfway to the altar, she was accompanied by her father-in-law, Prince Charles.

All in all, it was a beautiful ceremony, and Meghan looked gorgeous in a wedding gown designed by Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy — even though fans dragged her for having "messy hair."
We're sad to know Thomas had to miss the big day, but we're excited to see what this next chapter holds for Meghan and Harry. Congratulations, you two!
