You Guys, Donald Trump Just Threw a Soccer Ball at Melania and Twitter Is Having a Field Day

Well, this is awkward. Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a soccer ball to Donald Trump in honor of the United States co-hosting the World Cup in 2026, but the US president ended up chucking it to his wife.

In the clip posted to CNN, Trump accepted the gift from Putin and said, "That's right, thank you very much. We do host it, and we hope we do as good a job." He added, "That's very nice. That will go to my son, Barron. In fact, Melania, here you go."

The ball bounced on its way to the First Lady's lap — and since the video was posted, Twitter (unsurprisingly) has had a lot to say. "POTUS gave the ball to the First Lady like a dog," one person wrote. "America is a disgrace." Another angry tweeter added, "What. Is. WRONG. With. Him?!?!" and a third chimed in, "He really threw a soccer ball at his wife from the stage…"

Others, however, were more concerned about the ball having some sort of bug. "Ya I'd recommend screening that thing for bugs, or fine powder, and the like," someone said. A second wrote, "I hope Secret Service checks soccer ball Putin gave Trump for a listening device, GPS tag, or other spying equipment."

Sigh. Politics aside, how long do we think this will take before someone turns it into a meme? Anyone, anyone?
