What Is ‘My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story’ About?

The new Paramount+ series begins when LaRue was at the height of her fame while starring on CSI: Miami. “Eva LaRue received a handwritten letter signed ‘Freddie Krueger.’ Her life was never the same,” according to the project’s logline. “What followed was a 12-year nightmare filled with grotesque threats, violent fantasies and a faceless stalker who hunted her and her daughter.”

When Does ‘My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story’ Premiere?

My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story premieres on Thursday, November 13, on Paramount+.

Eva LaRue Has Been Open About Her Experience of Being Stalked

LaRue spoke to People about the experience in an interview published on Tuesday, November 11, explaining she first received the graphic letters via her manager and publicist. While she initially thought the hate mail might just be a twisted prank, LaRue grew more concerned when she started receiving letters with ominous messages such as, “I am going to instill fear into every part of your life.”

The stalker wouldn’t stop sending the messages, and he even began to target Kaya, who was just 5 years old at the time.

“It was the most heinous, most deplorable, most sickening, most terrifying threats,” LaRue told the outlet. “And then he began leveling them against my little girl.”

LaRue took precautions like having security cameras installed at their home and relocating three times, though the letters didn’t stop for more than a decade until a suspect was arrested in 2019.

No matter how scared she was, LaRue said she only read a handful of the letters and made sure Callahan didn’t know what was going on.

“Because my mom kept so much hidden, I didn’t know much about it,” Callahan told the outlet when asked about the docuseries. “It was like reliving it and yet experiencing it for the very first time.”

The letters got increasingly worse over the years, while the stalker even learned where Callahan was attending high school in 2019.

How Was Eva LaRue’s Stalker Found?

Later in 2019, DNA was found on one of the letters and the stalker was identified as James David Rogers. He was arrested soon after, and he pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in 2022. Rogers was eventually sentenced to 40 months in prison.

“It was very freeing,” Callahan said of when Rogers was finally arrested. “I just felt like I could live a normal life again.”

While their stalker experience is now in the past, LaRue said she wanted to share her story to advocate for other victims.

“It’s not just celebrities — all of us can be targeted through social media,” she said. “We want to help everybody who’s being stalked and instill some hope.”
