Queen Camilla Fails to Recognize Welsh Actress Before Commenting on Her Weight Loss
Queen Camilla had a bit of an awkward moment recently while shaking hands with a famous Welsh actress.
During a November 14 trip to South Wales for King Charles‘ birthday, the couple celebrated in the historic Cyfarthfa Castle where they were greeted by several famous Welsh stars.
One of these stars was comedian and actress Ruth Jones of Gavin & Stacey fame.
Unfortunately, Queen Camilla did not seem to immediately recognize Jones despite both her massive fame in the UK and having met her before.
A Daily Mail reporter caught the awkward encounter on video, which shows the Queen shaking Jones’ hand before asking, “Haven’t you lost masses of weight?” to which Jones laughed and responded, “Yes, I have, thank you! I’ve lost a bit of weight!”
The actress made headlines in 2011 for her weight loss, having lost nearly 60 pounds, attributing her success to “aversion therapy” which she said helped her give up eating chocolate.
In a 2024 interview on the podcast “Table Manners,” Jones explained that well-known hypnotist Paul McKenna trained her to give up chocolate by having her repeatedly associate it with a food she didn’t like.
At first, she was a bit skeptical of the process, but the results eventually spoke for themselves.
“It completely worked,” she shared in the interview. “I didn’t eat chocolate for five years. I couldn’t stand the smell of it.”
Over time, Jones was eventually able to go back to eating chocolate in moderation.
While Jones’ weight loss was certainly remarkable, it happened nearly 15 years ago, and she’s maintained a healthy weight since then.
The Queen had just recently met with Jones in March of this year at a “Women of the World” reception she hosted at Buckingham Palace.
