All-around badass Reese Witherspoon has an important message for women everywhere: don’t let a man trivialize your success! In a new interview with Glamour, the mother-of-three spoke candidly about her nearly three-decade-long career, and the BS she’s had to put up with along the way.
“Run away from a man who can’t handle your ambition. Run. So many men think ambition is awesome and sexy!” the 41-year-old said. We can’t help but wonder if that was meant as a backhanded insult towards her first husband, fellow actor Ryan Phillippe, who got divorced from the blonde beauty shortly after she won an Oscar in 2006.
The Walk the Line star added, “We have to do our part to change the idea that a woman with passion and ambition is only out for herself. So talk to your kids about ambition as a positive trait in men and women.”
Reese is currently married to talent agent Jim Toth, whom she gushed over in a March Instagram post. “Six years ago I was lucky enough to marry this wonderful man. He makes me laugh everyday and supports me in everything I do. Happy anniversary, JT! Here’s to many more!” she wrote at the time.
In fact, the Legally Blonde actress credits her hubby for convincing her to step behind the camera. She has since worked as a producer on films such as Wild and Gone Girl, as well as her hit TV show Big Little Lies. “He said, ‘You should produce movies. You read more books than anybody I know. You should just buy some of them and turn them into films,'” she shared.
The Louisiana native welcomed a son named Tennessee with Jim in 2012 and has two children — Ava, 17, and Deacon, 13 — from her marriage to Ryan. But given that she’s worth a whopping $120 million all on her own, we’d say she definitely doesn’t need a man to define her!
