Reese Witherspoon Admits Her Youngest Child Is Really Invested in Her Career

Reese Witherspoon joined Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show and opened up about her youngest child’s high ambitions for her.

Clarkson asked the actress about the film Walk the Line, in which Reese starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix. “You haven’t won a Grammy but thought you had for that soundtrack?” Clarkson questioned Witherspoon.

“Well, yeah, the soundtrack won the Grammy, but I didn’t,” Reese replied.

“I know, but you didn’t get one for that soundtrack even though you’re one of the singers. That’s crap!” exclaimed Kelly.  “I’m one of the singers,” Reese confirmed.

“I was mad because I thought, how is she not? You’ve won everything else. You could be an EGOT by now—not that it matters—but I just thought you definitely had one,” Clarkson added.

“It’s so funny you say that, because my youngest kid is super invested in my career,” said Witherspoon.

“My other two could give two craps, but my youngest is like, ‘Mom, can you get an EGOT?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I’m going to have to work a lot harder.’

And he’s like, “‘Well then, get going!’ He wants me to win a Tony so badly. I’m like, ‘Do you know what a Tony is?’ And he said, ‘No.’”

Witherspoon shares daughter Ava Phillippe, 26, and son Deacon Phillippe, 21, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.  She also shares a son Tennessee James Toth, 13, with her ex-husband Jim Toth

Witherspoon announced her breakup with Toth in a statement on Instagram on March 24, 2023 and filed for divorce a few days later after 12 years of marriage.

In the joint statement, the pair said they reached the “difficult decision” after “a great deal of care and consideration.”
