Richard Barry Randolph Set for Execution in Florida: Inside His Brutal Crime

Prisoner Richard Barry Randolph is scheduled to be executed in Florida in November 2025. Ahead of his execution, Life & Style breaks down everything to know about Randolph and his crime.

What Crime Did Richard Barry Randolph Commit?

Randolph was convicted of raping and fatally beating his former manager at a Florida convenience store in 1988.

According to NBC News, he attempted to break into the safe at the Handy-Way convenience store in Palatka, Florida, where he previously worked, in August 1988. The store’s manager, Minnie Ruth McCollum, spotted Randolph and tried to fight him off.

However, Randolph overpowered her, beating, strangling, stabbing and raping her before he left the store with her car.

Three women witnessed Randolph leaving the store and they called police after they noticed that a mess was left behind in the store. Once a deputy arrived at the scene of the crime, he found that McCollum was still alive and she was taken to a hospital in a coma. She died six days later of severe brain injuries.

Randolph was arrested soon after the attack took place when he was at a Jacksonville grocery store, where he was trying to borrow money and cash in lottery tickets stolen from the convenience store.

While talking to authorities, investigators said Randolph admitted to attacking McCollum and revealed where he left bloody clothing he wore during the attack.

Richard Barry Randolph Is Scheduled for Execution

After he was arrested, Randolph was convicted of murder, armed robbery, sexual battery and grand theft. He was then sentenced to death in 1989.

The Florida Supreme Court denied Randolph’s appeals in mid-November 2025 to avoid execution, according to NBC News. In light of the decision, he is scheduled to be executed via lethal injection on November 20, 2025.

Randolph is one of three people to be scheduled for execution in Florida before the end of 2025. Mark Allen Geralds is scheduled to be executed on December 9, while Frank Athen Walls’ execution is expected to take place on December 18.
