Everything Police Have Confirmed About the Deaths of Rob Reiner and Wife Michele

Hollywood is reeling over the sudden deaths of legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, film producer Michele Singer — and authorities are now working to determine exactly what happened.

On Sunday, December 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for medical aid at a residence around 3:30 p.m. When first responders arrived, they discovered a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman deceased inside the home. It was later confirmed the victims were Rob and Michele.

The couple was found in their Brentwood residence, an upscale West Los Angeles neighborhood known for its celebrity residents. While initial details were limited, the Los Angeles Police Department said it was investigating an “apparent homicide” after the two bodies were discovered.

Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said the department is conducting a “death investigation” and confirmed that authorities were in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the property. During a news conference later that evening, Hamilton emphasized that no suspect has been identified and that no one is currently in custody. He also noted that police would not release additional information about the victims until the Los Angeles County coroner does so.

The Reiner family confirmed the tragic news in a statement, asking for privacy as they grieve. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read.

Rob Reiner leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in Hollywood. The director, producer, and actor was responsible for some of the most iconic films of the past four decades, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men. Before his film career took off, he became a household name playing Mike on Norman Lear’s groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family.

Born in the Bronx in 1947, Rob was the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner and actress and singer Estelle Lebost. He met Michele while directing When Harry Met Sally and the two married in 1989, later welcoming three children together.
