When it comes to being honest, plus-size model Tess Holliday isn’t one to back down from the truth. The 34-year-old body positive activist took to her Instagram to share an update on her ongoing battle with depression and current social media detox.

“Hi, it’s your fav crybaby here,” she captioned a selfie posted on August 2. “It’s been a week since I’ve posted on here, or used any other social media [and] tbh, I’ve been tempted to not come back at all. This depression has been harder on me than ever, and I’m working through it slowly with therapy, exercise ([and] a lil 🌿💨 if I’m honest 🤷🏻‍♀️).”

After admitting to doing a little self-medicating, the Instagram influencer explained that she felt lucky to be able to take a step back from the platform that has been setting her back mentally.

“I’m grateful that my career is doing well enough that I’m able to take a step back and work on myself in a really intense [and] meaningful way,” she continued. “Social media is a great tool for connecting with others [and] blah blah blah … but it’s not good for me right now. So for y’all asking, no, I’m not OK, but I’m making steps towards being OK. 💗”

The model has never been one to shy away from important topics on social media and using her platform for good, so it’s great to see her highlighting her own struggle for the betterment of her fans. In fact, back in June, she got real on her Instagram Stories about a “fan” who fat-shamed her on vacation — and how commenting on people’s bodies is not OK.

“No. No, that’s not nice. And don’t get mad because I will say something or I will block you,” she said in her video rant. “Or maybe I’ll just let you stay there for a bit to boost my engagement but just don’t be that person. Just let me live my life. I’m fat as s—t,” she concluded. “I’m enjoying my life, I’m happy, it doesn’t affect you.”

She’s one strong gal.
