Miss Harris From ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Was Played by the Duffer Brothers Real-Life High School Teacher

The creators of Stranger Things cast their very own high school drama teacher in season 5 — and the story behind the decision is quite special.

Co-creator Ross Duffer shared on Instagram November 28, following the release of the final season’s Volume 1 on Wednesday, that they cast Hope Hynes Love as Ms. Harris, as she was a formative part of their adolescence.

“Miss Harris is played by Hope Hynes Love. She was our high school drama teacher,” he wrote in the caption. “High school was rough for me and my brother. But Hope saw something in us we didn’t see in ourselves — and she helped give us the confidence to not only survive those four years, but to move to LA and chase our dreams.”

Ross added, “Shoutout to all the teachers out there making a difference. And please… let’s prioritize the arts in schools.”

Warning, spoilers ahead for Season 5.

In the show, Ms. Harris is introduced as a Hawkins Elementary School teacher and quickly becomes part of the action. Her classroom includes Holly Wheeler, who at one point is seen talking to her “imaginary friend,” Mr. Whatsit — who Mike and Nancy later discover is Henry Creel, a.k.a. Vecna.

Ms. Harris isn’t just a bystander to the chaos. In Volume 1, she helps the military at MAC-Z keep an eye on the children and even guides them to hide under beds during a Demogorgon attack — though, unfortunately, they are still taken by Vecna by the end of episode four, “Sorcerer.”

When Will uncovers Vecna’s plans, he and his friends try to evacuate the targeted kids, including Ms. Harris, from Hawkins. But with the army quarantining the class on a base in the center of town, the mission culminates in an epic showdown between Will and Vecna — ending on a suspenseful cliffhanger.

Volume 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 is now streaming on Netflix, with Volume 2 set to drop on December 25. The series finale will air on December 31, with a special theatrical release as fans prepare to say goodbye to Hawkins once and for all.
