UAB Football Player Accused of Stabbing 2 Teammates Before Game: Everything to Know
A University of Alabama at Birmingham football player was accused of stabbing two teammates on the morning of Saturday, November 22, just hours before the team was scheduled to play against the University of South Florida.

University of Alabama at Birmingham Football Player Stabbed 2 Teammates
College athlete Daniel Mincey, an offensive lineman who transferred to the university in May, reportedly stabbed two of his teammates. The Associated Press reported that he was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder on November 22, according to Jefferson County Jail records.
Mincey was taken into custody in Birmingham, Alabama. It’s not currently clear if he has legal representation as of time of publication.

Additionally, no information has been released about what may have led Mincey to stab his two teammates.
Daniel Mincey’s 2 Victims Are in Stable Condition
Interim head coach Alex Mortensen said the two victims were taken to the hospital and were in stable condition, per the outlet. The identities of the victims have not been publicly revealed.
Meanwhile, a UAB spokesperson told The New York Post there was “no threat to campus” following the incident.
University of Alabama at Birmingham Played the Football Game After the Stabbing
Following the incident, the UAB football team opted to still play the game against the University of South Florida Bulls.
During a postgame press conference, Mortensen explained the team was given a choice and ultimately chose to move forward with the game to honor graduating seniors since it was the last home game of the season. However, several players chose to sit it out in light of the incident.

“We want to be very sympathetic to what everyone’s going through and make sure everyone understood they had an opportunity to seek counseling or anything that they needed or wanted that the university is here to help them,” Mortensen said during the press conference, per People.
Mortensen said the team tried to focus on its normal game-day routines once they decided to play the game. Additionally, he shared that counseling was being made available for players who wanted it.
The Blazers ultimately lose the game to the Bulls with a score of 48-18. The loss meant they fell to 3-8 on the season, as well as 1-6 in the American Conference. The Blazers last game of the season is scheduled to take place on November 29, 2025, at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
