After Combs was sentenced to serve 50 months in prison during an October 2025 sentencing, the Bureau of Prisons revealed when they expect the disgraced music mogul to be released.

The Bureau of Prisons stated they believe Combs will be released from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, on May 8, 2028, according to federal inmate records viewed by ABC News.

Combs will then have the opportunity to complete the 9-12 month treatment program offered by the Federal Bureau of Prisons for federal inmates with substance abuse problems, and his sentence could potentially be reduced by 12 months, per ABC News.

On October 20, 2024, TMZ reported that President Donald Trump was considering commuting Combs’ prison sentence. However, a White House official denied the report on October 21, 2025.
“There is zero truth to the TMZ report, which we would’ve gladly explained had they reached out before running their fake news,” the official told NBC News. “The President, not anonymous sources, is the final decider on pardons and commutations.”
However, TMZ spokesperson Casey Carver said, “We stand by our story.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Was Acquitted of Charges During His Trial
While Combs was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, he was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges during his trial.
Prior to his sentencing, federal prosecutors argued Combs deserved at least 11 years in prison. Meanwhile, his lawyers asked for their client to be sentenced for no longer than 14 months.
Meanwhile, Combs wrote a letter to the judge overseeing his case before his sentencing was determined.
“In my life, I have made many mistakes, but I am no longer running from them,” he wrote in the letter, per CNN. “I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused, but I understand that the mere words ‘I’m sorry’ will never be good enough as these words alone cannot erase the pain from the past.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Lawyers Filed for an Appeal
On October 20, 2025, Combs’ attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, filed a notice of appeal in the Federal District Court of New York, per ABC News. According to the outlet, she stated their legal team’s intent to appeal his conviction and prison sentence.
While the recent filing did not explain the grounds on which Combs’ appeal will be based on, his attorneys previously argued the conviction should not stand because the statute does not apply.
