Why Was Singer Akon Arrested?
Akon – whose real name is Aliaune Thiam – was arrested on November 7, 2025 when he didn’t show up to court in Georgia regarding a ticket he received for driving with a suspended license.
Police records obtained by ABC News show that Akon was arrested by police in Chamblee, Georgia, a city northeast of Atlanta. He was taken to the DeKalb County jail before he was handed over to the Roswell police. Police then booked Akon in another jail where he posted bail and was released that same day.
Akon has not yet publicly spoken out about his arrest.

Police reports from Roswell stated that Akon was found on September 10, 2025 in a disabled Tesla Cybertruck on a busy street near his residence, according to ABC News. After a police officer called for a tow truck, the officer checked the car’s license plate and found Akon had no valid auto insurance and a suspended driver’s license after he failed to appear for a court hearing in January 2023.
The report stated that police impounded the truck and cited Akon for driving without a valid license and confiscated the license he had before he was released. Police also noted they found an “illegal vape” in the report, which they seized.
Chamblee police said they responded to a business called Tint World on November 9 after a traffic camera caught that the Cybertruck was parked there. It was discovered that the vehicle was connected to an outstanding warrant.
Who Is Akon?
Akon is a singer who rose to fame when he released his debut album, Trouble, in 2004. He went on to release albums Konvicted in 2006, Freedom in 2008, El Negreeto in 2019 and Akonda in 2019.

In addition to his music career, Akon has been active in philanthropic ventures in Africa after he lived in Senegal during his childhood.
Akon is currently on tour in India. He performed in Delhi two days after he was arrested on November 9, 2025.
