Why Was Taylor Swift Booed at the 2025 Super Bowl? Her Reaction to the Crowd After Jumbotron Moment
Taylor Swift received boos from the crowd at the 2025 Super Bowl, but the singer had many people coming to her defense after the now-viral jumbotron moment.
Why Was Taylor Swift Booed at the Super Bowl?
Taylor was featured on the jumbotron at the big game at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 9, 2025. Several social media users shared the clip on their Instagram and X accounts, where the crowd could be heard booing the “Karma” singer as she appeared on the screen. She gave a side eye to the camera during the awkward moment while sitting next to rapper Ice Spice. After a few seconds, Taylor flashed a smile and was seen saying something to the people around her before the camera panned away.
Prior to the game, the commentators mentioned that there were more Philadelphia Eagles fans in attendance than Kansas City Chiefs fans at the Super Bowl. A sea of green Eagles jerseys flooded the stands before kickoff.
Taylor, who was in attendance to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce‘s Chiefs, was targeted by Eagles fans even before the game. Eagles fans attacked the hitmaker with hateful T-shirts in the days leading up to the game.
NFL writer Dov Kleiman showed off one of the shirts in a post on X, which said “F–k Taylor Swift” with the Eagles logo replacing the “C” in the curse word on the front.
“Awful: Eagles fans have made shirts to give out cursing out Taylor Swift for the Super Bowl,” he wrote alongside the photo. “There’s no place for this in sports.”
Taylor previously addressed those who were disgruntled about her appearances during Travis’ games in December 2023.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she told Time. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Swifties Came to Taylor’s Defense Online After Viral Super Bowl Moment
Many came to Taylor’s defense after the moment was captured on camera at the 2025 Super Bowl.
“Booing taylor swift as if she’s playing on the field against ‘your’ team, even though she’s just sitting there looking pretty, is loser behavior,” one person wrote on X.
“How does it feel to know you can boo Taylor Swift all you want and she’s still going to be more loved, more respected and more successful than you’ll ever be?” another person said. “And she’ll still be at all the games happily cheering on her boyfriend having no idea who you are!!”
Serena Williams also came to Taylor’s defense after the clip began surfacing online.
“I love you @taylorswift13 dont listen to those booo!!” she wrote on X.
Serena was in attendance at the game, appearing in a dance sequence during Kendrick Lamar‘s halftime performance.
Another X user wrote, “You’re not cooler or a better person for booing taylor swift for being shown on the jumbotron at her boyfriend’s game.”
“Booing taylor while she’s literally just minding her own business and having fun supporting her bf is highly pathetic!!!!!!!” another person said.
