Zach Bryan Opens Up About Sobriety Struggle: ‘I Really Need Some F****** Help’
Zach Bryan is turning a new page — and he’s opening up about it with fans.
The “I Remember Everything” singer revealed he’s almost two months sober, sharing a heartfelt message about mental health and the moment he realized he needed to make a major change. According to Zach, the wake-up call came during a solo 20-day motorcycle trip across the country.
“I was sitting in a parking lot in Seattle, Washington thinking, ‘I really need some f****** help,’” he recalled in a November 18 Instagram post.
The country star explained that years in the military followed by an unexpected rise to fame took a toll on him. “Being in the military for a decade and then thrown into a spotlight that I hadn’t fully comprehended the scope of, had subconscious effects on me as a person,” he shared. He admitted he struggled to show vulnerability, adding, “I was not content but I also feared showing weakness because that’s not who I am or how I was raised. To charge forward and never settle was the motto.”
Eventually, the pressure became too much. Zach said he found himself “stuck in a perpetual discontent” and constantly reaching for alcohol — “not for the taste,” he clarified, “but because there was a consistent black hole in me always needing its void filled.”
His breaking point came amid an overwhelming season of life: getting “lied about and doxxed on the internet,” supporting friends through tough situations, and performing five to six nights a week. It all resulted in “earth-shattering panic attacks.” The singer admitted he felt paralyzed by anxiety, assuming that success meant he should be able to push through anything. “I thought since I was successful, had the money I always longed for, and had great friends, that I could tough anything out,” he wrote.
Zach shared that the support of his family — along with his future plans with girlfriend Samantha Leonard — motivated him to get sober. “Conversations about the future, kids one day, my health and Sammy’s happiness made me prioritize not only myself, but my entire family,” he said.
And while he feels stronger than ever, Zach isn’t pretending the journey is simple. He admitted sobriety may not be forever, saying, “I don’t believe in absolutes. One day maybe, I’ll learn to control my habits, but for now; I just want to say it is okay to be weak at times and need help.”
Samantha showed her love right away, commenting, “I love you my sweet boy.”
