Kate Gosselin was one of TV's highest-paid stars thanks to the TLC reality show Jon and Kate Plus 8, which turned into just Kate Plus 8 following her 2009 divorce from Jon Gosselin. But the series was officially canceled in September, and Kate exclusively tells Life & Style that since then, she's had to learn how to live on a much tighter budget.
"I track my expenses and budget more carefully, which means I have to spend time on it," the former reality star tells Life & Style. "Finding the time is, of course, hard when you've got a large family. I'm doing my best to stay on top of it, though."
The 36-year-old didn't always have to be so tight with money. Just last year, Kate was reportedly making an incredible $250,000 per episode for Kate Plus 8. The show aired for 21 episodes over two seasons, which means she raked in around $5.25 million. Along with her TV-show paycheck, Kate also brought in the green with her 2010 stint on Dancing With the Stars, where she earned $100,000 each week. She's also written four books -- two of which debuted at No. 5 on the New York Times bestseller list -- and brings in a paycheck of $25,000 to $40,000 for each speaking engagement or appearance.
"[Now] when I need to make a purchase, I always comparison shop to make sure I get the best prices," she tells Life & Style. "I'm constantly planning ahead. I plan ahead with grocery lists, daily purchases, extra expenses, you name it." Adds Kate, "At the same time, I've also been managing to save for my family's future."
And it seems her coupon-cutting habit has landed her a new gig: On Nov. 2, it was also announced that Kate will be a guest blogger for the coupon website, CouponCabin.com.
