Dr. Cheryl Bansal, MD Blends Patient Care With Teledermatology

Dr. Cheryl Bansal is an industry leader and innovator with an eye for quality care. The board-certified dermatologist started a full-service practice, Medical & Aesthetic Dermatology, in Columbia, MD over 15 years ago. With a commitment to give patients effective and compassionate care, Dr. Bansal and her team have helped nearly 80,000 patients since the clinic opened.

Early Inspiration

As a child, Dr. Bansal looked up to her mother, a dermatologist and pillar of the rural farming community in upstate New York where she was raised. Dr. Bansal witnessed how her mother positively changed many lives with treatment and respected her abilities.

“She’s had her own health issues since I was young, and she always faced them with grace and strength, with my father by her side. They both taught me how to thrive together and it’s really a model my own husband and I look to, personally and professionally,” Dr. Bansal says.

At the age of 16, Dr. Bansal was admitted to medical school through a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that allowed her to earn her degrees by the age of 24. When she completed her residency at 28, she started her own practice, something she had always wanted to achieve. Dr. Bansal was determined to build a workplace environment that would be welcoming and warm to both her staff and patients.

Medical & Aesthetic Dermatology’s services include medical, surgical, cosmetic, and pediatric dermatology. She has associates who also see patients and perform procedures, and a qualified staff that ensures her patients are treated well and their needs are met.

A New Teledermatology Endeavor

Dr. Bansal decided that she wanted to provide effective, cost-efficient care for dermatological conditions that are very common among her patients. These include rosacea, acne, and eczema. Along with her husband, Dr. Andy Mattai, MD, she embarked on a new venture aimed at helping people nationwide. DoctorDerm is an online teledermatology company focused on providing affordable care.

“There are other teledermatology platforms out there, but ours is unique because we are started and helmed by a dermatologist and have novel, multi-prescription compounds with a super moisturizing and anti-inflammatory vehicle,” Dr. Bansal says.
