Janna Johnson, Founder of Revive By Janna: Overcoming Lyme Disease & Managing the Unexpected in Life

It’s impossible to control what life has in store, but you can control how you respond. This is what saved Mindset Coach, Holistic Nutritionist, and Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Janna Johnson’s life.

You’re sure to have heard the phrase “mind over matter” at some point or another. If you have been told this during a time of struggle, it probably wasn’t what you wanted to hear because when you’re living with hardship, it can be difficult to see beyond it. When it comes to physical illness specifically, it doesn’t just cause harm to your body, but it impacts your mind just as profoundly. In fact, the inverse relationship between physical and mental health has been studied and proven to be strong, and the outcomes of this internal connection can include depression, anxiety, sleep issues, and more.

Janna’s impact in the wellness space is undeniable. Her podcast, Revive By Janna, has become a powerhouse in the industry, ranking as a top show on the Apple Podcast charts. Additionally, her book, Unf*ck Your Mind: Shatter Limiting Beliefs to Become Who You Were Meant to Be, has resurfaced as a bestseller, solidifying her as a leading voice in health and mindset transformation.

Janna Johnson is the founder of Revive by Janna, a holistic one-stop-shop resource for all things mind and body wellness, and survivor of Lyme disease, which impacts 476,000 people each year, according to recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) data.

Johnson says that this horrible diagnosis later became her superpower and led to her newfound purpose.

Her philosophy on her life and diagnosis was simple, yet so hard to live truthfully by. Life is full of adversity, and as a result, you are often given various paths to follow. What is somewhat beautiful about this is that there is always a way to regain control of your life when you understand the very basic principle that there is power in your choices, even when it may not seem like it. You cannot control what comes your way, but you can control how you respond, react, and so on. Once you master that, you are invincible.

The only impediment to getting to that point requires consistency, determination, and, above all, belief in an outcome that is completely unpromised.

“I think it is incredibly easy to choose the victim path in life when we go through hard times. In fact, that is our natural reaction, but we must not stay in that mindset, or healing is impossible.  When I was diagnosed, and at the peak of my disease, I knew I could either try to rise above the situation or retract emotionally and lean into being the victim. Don’t get me wrong, what I went through was horrible, and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone, but that adversity taught me exactly what I needed in order to fulfill my purpose and help others. I also learned what I believe to be life’s most important lesson, which is refusing to let a negative situation dictate my entire existence,” emphasizes Johnson.

This realization did not come easily or instantly, though. At one point during her battle, Johnson became angry and flooded with resentment about Lyme and the horrific relentless symptoms it caused, severe depression, and brain fog so intense it created derealization. Even at an all-time low, she made the choice to believe in the impossible and to fight to regain her life. She realized her only chance was to have faith that she could get well and completely eradicate Lyme from her body, even though there was no proof and no known way.

She explains, “This pivotal moment with my illness hit, and I chose to actually practice telling myself I could get well, so much so that I started to believe it. I stopped consuming anything negative about Lyme and really shifted my mindset to be completely positive. This is where I chose to follow a new path forward because I was incredibly determined to heal and regain control over my body. I realized at that moment that maybe the reason I could never find the story of hope from external sources in my life was because my story was meant to be one of redemption.”

Johnson lived and breathed the “mind over matter” mantra. She decided that her disease wasn’t going to be a soul-crushing pit stop in her life. Instead, she took the adversity of Lyme and turned it into her life’s purpose: to be a teacher of health and wellness and to promote the understanding of how critical mindset is for recovery.

Despite the exacerbating hardship and pain she experienced, Johnson says that if she could go back and change her life, her response would be an enthusiastic “no.” Through her journey from first managing her diagnosis to battling the peak of her illness, she learned what she sees as one of the most misinterpreted realities, which is that the body and mind live in synergy. They can work together to overcome hardship, but when both entities are suffering, the road to recovery feels impossible.

Now, Johnson has dedicated her life to helping others regain control over their minds and bodies and harness wellness through different services and techniques. What was once her biggest demon, battling Lyme disease, has turned into a beautiful purpose that will continue to touch the lives of so many people struggling with chronic illness, health, or mental issues.
