At the time, the brunette beauty had just been released from prison — where she served time for fraud charges — and was looking forward to turning her life around. Fans everywhere were so excited for her comeback! Unfortunately, life had other plans.

The doctor who treated Abby in the hospital said had she not been rushed there in time, she could have died. Even so, the ALDC founder was determined to beat the odds … and that she has!

“There’s people that counted me out. They thought I was finished — considered the ALDC dead. Well, I fought hard to be here … you have to be a fighter, too!” the powerhouse told her team of dancers in the season 8 Dance Moms trailer.

You Have to Start Somewhere …
Despite being confined to a wheelchair for some time, Abby was determined to get back on her feet. In July 2018, she posted the most amazing update to Instagram. “Look at me, way up high,” Abby wrote in the caption of a photo of her smiling wide as she was harnessed above what seemed to be a physical therapy treadmill. “I never thought I’d be cast in the role of Peter Pan, but I’m harnessed up and ready to fly!!”

She Gets By With a Little Help From Her Friends!
In addition to the unwavering support of Abby’s fans, her close friends and family have been by her side since day one. Shortly after she was diagnosed, Dance Moms OG JoJo Siwavisited her in the hospital. “I actually went to visit her yesterday — she was not good by any means,” JoJo said at the time. “I know what she has is awful, but she’s in good spirits so that’s really good. It’s hard, but she is definitely, definitely, definitely the strongest, toughest person that I know, and so I think she’ll be good.”

Strong, Indeed!
Abby has been remarkably upbeat throughout her entire cancer journey. No matter how bad things got, she always (and we mean ALWAYS) found a silver lining. “Hallelujah! I’m headed to the mall! I’ve only been once in 13 long, painful months. For a lifelong shopper like me that’s absolute torture!!!” she wrote on August 28, 2018. It’s the little things, right?

Her Smile Never Faded!
Even facing conditions that would break most people’s spirit, Abby’s smile was a permanent fixture. “It’s Friday! Yay & Pray my white blood cell count goes up and my 103 fever goes down! Yikes!” she shared on Instagram while she was at the hospital.

She’s Come Such a Long Way …
All of Abby’s hard work, dedication and unwavering faith has certainly paid off. She’s made incredible progress and is even able to return to her passion — dance!

As it stands, Lifetime has yet to announce an exact premiere date for season 8. Sigh. However, Miss Abby has been plenty of behind-the-scenes shots to hold us over in the meantime. Thanks, lady, you’re a gem!
