NBC is reportedly working on a revival of the once popular singing competition and looking at the Season 1 winner and the Puerto Rican popstar, who previously served as a judge, to have major roles on the show.

“NBC and Freemantle want Kelly Clarkson to be a part of the show,” a source tells Hollywood Life. “Minus the obvious reasons surrounding her Idol past, they feel Kelly would be a great judge.”

The insider continued, “With all the work she has done with The Voice, such as being a mentor, it would be a dream come true for producers to have her join Jennifer Lopez and other hopeful contributors.”

As for J.Lo, she is the top priority for the network.

When the show came to an end last year after 15 seasons, Jennifer, 47, opened up about the finale, telling Ellen Degeneres, “You remember why you love this show. It just gives opportunity where there is none, you know, and it’s about dreams. And it’s about everything that America is about.”

However, there is one celeb we don’t expect to see on the reboot, and that is former judge Simon Cowell.

“I wasn’t surprised,” he told Variety of the show coming to an end. “No one can complain after 15 years. It’s had a fantastic run, great memories. For me, I had the best time of my life. But then, you move on and other things come along.”

At its peak, American Idol brought in 38 million viewers to watch Ruben Studdard beat out Clay Aiken on FOX — and NBC is hoping to have similar success.

“They want to really make a splash upon the inevitable return,” the source explained.
