Fans can agree that Monday night’s season finale of The Bachelor was one of the most awkward in history given the apparent tension between recently engaged duo Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi. So naturally, viewers want to know: are they still together?

Although they’ve both acknowledged that the relationship hasn’t been easy, the couple seems committed to working on it together. During the After the Final Rose special, the reality stars admitted they “have a long way to go” and “are getting to know each other.”

“We have a very open relationship in terms of communication. We’re very honest with each other — I don’t sweep anything under the rug, neither does he. And it’s been hard,” Vanessa confessed before Nick joined her onstage. “You know, we live in two different countries, [and we’re] starting a relationship where you don’t get the chance to see each other every day and do normal things. When we do see each other, it’s in a house. I love him, we love each other, but there are days that have been difficult.”

The brunette beauty continued, “There have been moments when I wanted him to be a little more empathetic toward my feelings. So we’ve had our challenges with that, but at the end of the day, we both love each other. We want to make this work, and as challenging as it can be sometimes, we’re excited about the future.”

Nick added, “As Vanessa mentioned, there’s been those moments. We’ve had our struggles, but we’re good communicators, and we talk. But we do try to be that team. I think we’re still looking forward to having that first normal moment.”

The Milwaukee native revealed that the pressure to keep such a big secret didn’t help. “Some of the stresses in the Bachelor world as a couple is simply the fear of leaking the truth, like screwing up, accidentally posting a picture that’s somehow in your phone, saying the wrong thing… even that has its own burden.”

As always, we hope the pair will be able to make it work!
