Colton Underwood Responds To ‘Bachelor’ Contestant Tracy Shapoff’s Racist Tweets

Yikes! One upcoming contestant on The Bachelor can’t seem to get out of hot water before the show even airs. Tracy Shapoff has been receiving backlash from fans about some controversial tweets that she had previously written. Although she has since apologized, Colton Underwood has made it clear that he is not here for that sort of social media negativity.

The former football player, 26, said he doesn’t “believe in whatever Tracy liked and tweeted at the time. [But] I think that’s a growing thing” during a conference call with Us Weekly on Jan. 3. Considering Colton has received his fair share of backlash, it’s no surprise that he seems relatively chill about the situation.

Tracy, 31, had Bachelor Nation buzzing when a series of racist and fat-shaming tweets from 2010 and 2011 were dug up. “Liposuction is r——d… stop wasting your money and just get your fat a– to the gym,” the stylist wrote in one tweet. “1. Women shouldn’t drive cars too big for them. 2. Do old Asian women have any vision?!” she said in another.

The upcoming contestant released an apology in December where she admitted that she is “beyond mortified” about the offensive things she said. “I want to start by expressing my sincerest apologies for the extremely hurtful words that I said many years ago. I’m so sorry for those who I have offended,” she confessed in a multi-slide written message.

“I am beyond mortified that I ever had those thoughts and then proceeded to express them. By no means does this reflect the person who I am today,” she continued. Although Tracy said that she “will not defend” those past tweets, she mentions that she has made steps to become a more understanding person.

“In the many years since writing those tweets, I have made a conscious effort not to be judgmental and to be accepting of all people. I have gone into a field of work where I am able to help women and men have positive images of themselves, their bodies, and feel beautiful in who they are… I feel so lucky to have the opportunity.”

It looks like the stylist has hopefully learned her lesson. As for what happens with Colton, we’ll find out when the new season kicks off on Jan. 7.
