Brooks Nader Opens Up About Plastic Surgery, Weight Loss, and GLP-1 Use
On November 5, Brooks Nader sat down with Bustle and opened up about plastic surgery, body image, and the realities of working in the modeling industry.
The Sports Illustrated model didn’t hold back when discussing her cosmetic procedures. She admitted to getting a nose job — joking, “People say I look like Michael Jackson,” — as well as veneers by celebrity dentist Dr. Michael Apa.
She’s also tried her share of injectables, from salmon sperm facials to the “Nefertiti” Botox neck lift. “Every Christmas, you can catch me looking like Freddy Krueger,” she quipped.
However, Nader also addressed a deeper issue, the intense pressure to maintain a certain body image in the modeling industry.
“If I didn’t get a job, I would say to [my old agency], ‘Can we get feedback from the client?’ The direct feedback was I needed to lose 30 pounds,” she recalled. “I didn’t shed one tear over it. I don’t feel bad for myself. I just said, ‘The facts are they want me to lose weight. How can I achieve that?’”
Nader went on to reveal that her career changed dramatically after she began taking GLP-1 medication for weight loss.
“The facts are that when I started GLP-1, my career took off,” she said. “I’m not saying it’s OK. I’m not saying it’s right. I think everybody is different — but I lost 30 pounds, and I booked all the jobs.”
She also shared how many people have reached out since she first spoke publicly about using GLP-1.
“I had so many people message me saying, ‘I’m also addicted to GLP-1. I’m ashamed to talk about it because there’s such a stigma around it. It’s a crutch for me,’” Nader explained. “I’m still on it. It’s a crutch for me, too. It’s not healthy. I should get off it; I’ll be honest about that.”
The 28-year-old began pursuing modeling seriously in 2017, when she left a full-ride scholarship at Tulane University in New Orleans and moved to New York City.
While the early years were slow — landing small hand-modeling gigs — everything changed after she attended a 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit open casting call. Out of more than 10,000 applicants, Nader was selected and quickly rose to fame, eventually gracing the magazine’s cover.
Today, she’s represented by the same powerhouse IMG executive who manages Gigi and Bella Hadid.
