That was fast! Cardi B and Offset only announced that they secretly got married last year in June, and now they’re celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary. On Sept. 20, the pair celebrated the anniversary of their special day with a new Instagram pic.
Of course, the couple secretly tied the knot in the most Cardi way possible. Forget bad and boujee, Cardi’s wedding to the Migos rapper was spontaneous and real — much like the “Bodak Yellow” songstress herself, and so there was nothing traditional about it. Even their outfits… Cardi is wearing a white track suit, while Offset wore a black one. In the pic, they’re both bowing their heads and holding hands.
According to TMZ, Cardi (real name: Belcalis Almanzar) and Offset (real name: Kiari Cephus) got married in their bedroom last year — one whole month before their very public proposal at Power 99’s Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia. Offset reportedly woke up and told the 25-year-old beauty, “Marry me.” That same day, Cardi hired an officiant to come to their house to make it official. And yes, all this took place way before Cardi even got pregnant. The marriage certificate, which was filed in Georgia, lists their wedding date as September 20, and Cardi’s cousin was the only witness.
On Monday, June 25, Cardi B took to Twitter to confirm the news. “There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself!” she tweeted. “Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other, was one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married. We found someone to marry us, and she did, just the two of us and my cousin. I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring! I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting for me have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me!! Well now since you lil nosey f–ks know at least ya can stop saying I had a baby out of wedlock.”
That very public proposal that fans saw was just Offset, 26, keeping his promise to Cardi, but don’t worry, the couple still plans to tie the knot in a more glam wedding ceremony once Cardi gives birth to their baby girl. At the BET Awards, Offset called Cardi his wife, seemingly letting the secret slip and, as expected, fans were seriously excited for the hip-hop couple.
“I thank my wife. You should thank yours,” he said as Migos accepted the award for Best Group. “Offset and Cardi done had the wedding and BET ain’t make a show about it,” one viewer tweeted after the announcement before another added, “Let me guess Offset and Cardi goals now being that Offset shouted her out at the BET Awards.”
Now, the pair is keeping their daughter Kulture as a special moment to themselves. They haven’t shared a photo of her yet, but they’re so happy to be parents and spend some quality time together. Congrats to the happy couple!
