See All of the Cast Reactions to Roseanne's Racist Comments and the Show's Cancellation

Funny how quickly Roseanne Barr went from apologetic to combative. On May 29, the reboot of her show Roseanne was cancelled by ABC, despite a very successful first season back. The move was in response to Roseanne herself comparing Barack Obama's former aide Valerie Jarrett to "an ape." At first, Roseanne acknowledged she was wrong, even saying, "I just want to apologize to the hundreds of people and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet. I did something unforgivable so do not defend me."

However, less than a day later, she's quickly begun feuding with many of the cast members that have spoken out against her comments, including Sara Gilbert and Michael Fishman, who played her on-screen kids. Emma Kenney, her TV granddaughter, was willing to go so far as to quit the show, until she found out it had already been cancelled.

Now, Roseanne is on a retweet spree, showing love to people who support her, and calling pretty much everyone else "anti-semitists," "conspiracy theorists," and, "fake news." She also repeatedly said that she can't be racist because she's jewish. Yikes.

Sara Gilbert

After news broke of Roseanne's racist tweets and the cancellation, Sara — who plays Darlene — took to Twitter. "Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least," she wrote. "This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member."

Roseanne responded by saying, "Wow! Unreal." After a fan bashed Sara, Roseanne followed up with, "No, I understand her position and why she said what she said. I forgive her. It just shocked me a bit, but I indeed fucked up."

Sara later went on The Talk and said, "In addition to my statement, I would like to say that this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say I am proud of the show we made. The show has always been about love, diversity and inclusion and it’s sad to see it end in this way. I am sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made."

John Goodman

John — who plays Dan Connor on the show — was caught by ET, and said, "I would rather say nothing than to cause more trouble." He added that he's avoiding the internet and hasn't read about Roseanne's tweet. When asked about a possible spin-off show about just Dan, he said he's heard nothing, and that he "wasn't going to get an Emmy anyway."

Michael Fishman

Michael, who plays DJ, tweeted a lengthy message on Twitter, writing, "Today is one of the hardest in my life. I feel devastated, not for the end of the Roseanne show, but for all those who poured their hearts and souls into our jobs, and the audience that welcomed us into their homes." Roseanne responded by saying, "I created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it. ME. You throw me under the bus. Nice!"

Michael then followed up by saying, "You fought, built, and designed Roseanne for inclusiveness. That is why yesterday was so out of character with the last 30 years. It was in your hands from the beginning to the end. No one can deny that." Then Roseanne responded, "Please leave me alone, thanks."

Emma Kenney

Emma — who plays Darlene's daughter, Harris — actually planned to respond to Roseanne's tweets by quitting the show, but quickly learned the show was canceled. "I am hurt, embarrassed, and disappointed. The racist and distasteful comments from Roseanne are inexcusable. As I called my manager to quit working on Roseanne, I was told it was canceled. I feel so empowered by [Wanda Sykes], Channing Dungey, and anyone at ABC standing up for morals and abuse of power. Bullies will NEVER win."
