Talk about a statement! Hollywood star Charlize Theron shocked fans with her dramatic new look. Charlize walked the 2019 Oscars red carpet with a hair makeover, chopping and dyeing her signature blonde locks, transforming it into a super short brunette bob.

For most of her career, fans have known Charlize as a blonde, and most times, actresses will make drastic changes to their look for acting roles. But the 43-year-old’s hair stylist revealed the real reason why she decided to take a big risk right before the 2019 Oscars.

“Charlize is incredibly fearless,” Adir Abergel told Us Weekly. “She is willing to experiment.”

Abergel was responsible for the creative direction of Theron’s hair throughout Awards Season 2019, and he said he was the one who suggested that Charlize should change her hair. He said that he knew she had to go dark as soon as he saw her gorgeous blue blue Dior gown stylist Leslie Fremar “to pop everything out.”

“Hair is an extension of fashion,” Abergel explained. “It can be your greatest accessory.” As for the length, Abergel was inspired to chop it short because of the gown’s stunning open back.

“She said I trust you and I love your vision,” Abergel said. “I was more nervous than she was!”

The actress is up for the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her role in the 2018 drama comedy Tully. Also nominated in that category is
Emily Blunt for her role in Mary Poppins Returns, Olivia Colman for her role in The Favourite, Elsie Fisher for her role in Eighth Grade and Constance Wu for her role in Crazy Rich Asians.
