In the days following Demi Lovato‘s apparent overdose, more and more harrowing details from that fateful day continue to be made available. Most recently, it’s been reported that the singer’s bodyguard, whose name has yet to be released, was responsible for saving Demi’s life.

Sources close to the singer told TMZ that her bodyguard “somehow knew” that something was wrong the morning that Demi overdosed. “When he entered the home Demi’s assistant was screaming, ‘She’s dead, she’s dead,'” the publication revealed.

Sources continued that Demi’s bodyguard immediately rushed to her side to find that she wasn’t breathing. Additionally, it’s been reported that there was blood on her pillow — an apparent sign of hemorrhaging — as well as vomit that could have potentially clogged her airways. The bodyguard then “administered some sort of first aid to keep Demi alive before paramedics arrived.”

Thankfully, Demi survived and is now making her health a first priority. The 25-year-old is reportedly heading to a rehab facility right after leaving the hospital, according to TMZ. The arrangements are already set for the pop superstar and she’ll be “getting out any day now.” Her loved ones wanted her to enter treatment, but the choice was ultimately up to her and it looks like she decided to go.

“She could die if she doesn’t, and that’s not going to be on my watch that we did nothing,” a source who works for Demi told the site. TMZ insiders said she fell off the wagon months ago, but after her recent hospitalization, many thought she might be more open to staying at a live-in facility for extended treatment.

Demi has been receiving care at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was previously “very sick,” suffering extreme nausea and a high fever, likely caused by her overdose. Despite the complications, it looks like she’s going to be OK. “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support,” the singer’s rep revealed.

Fans have been worried about Demi ever since news of her hospitalization broke on July 24. LAPD Officer Ray Brown told Life & Style that police received a call at 11:37 a.m. of a possible O.D. of a 25-year-old female at Demi’s home.

TMZ reported that Demi was unconscious when police arrived after receiving the call. Sources told us that Demi was given a dose of Narcan while in her home, which treats narcotic overdoses. Originally it was reported that the overdose was caused by heroin, but other sources have since said that’s not the case.

Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesperson Margaret Stewart said that Demi was quickly transported from her Hollywood Hills house to a nearby hospital, and she is now resting up at Cedars-Sinai surrounded by her loved ones and completely alert.

A fan who attended Demi’s concert at the Mid State Fair in Paso Robles, California just two days earlier on July 22 says that while Demi seemed in good spirits, she may have been a little off. “Demi seemed okay to me, but I do remember her saying ‘F–k I forgot the words’ during one of her songs. I’ve always been a fan because of her struggles and being so open about them.”

Demi has had a long and complicated history with drug abuse, and she has always been exceptionally open and honest about it with fans. After six years of sobriety from a cocaine addiction, Demi revealed to fans that she had relapsed with a new single called “Sober” in June.

The singer opened up about her mental health to Dr. Phil in March, revealing just how dark her past had been, first experiencing suicidal thoughts at seven years old. Demi said she was bullied as a teen, and diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 18, which she used drugs and alcohol to cope with. “My addiction was very severe to where I had several scares, and I knew that at the rate I was using and drinking, I wasn’t going to live a long life. I used very fast, very hard.”

Hollywood was shocked by the heart-wrenching news. Demi’s friend Ariana Grande sent her support via Twitter, simply writing, “I love u @ddlovato.” Dance Moms star Mackenzie Ziegler also send love, writing, “praying for @ddlovato :(” Maren Morris wrote, “I don’t even know what to say except I’m thinking of you.” Our hearts go out to Demi, her friends, and her family in this difficult time.
