Demi Lovato on Camp Rock 3, New Cast, and Life Lessons with Kylie Kelce

Demi Lovato recently sat down with Kylie Kelce on the Not Gonna Lie podcast to talk all things Camp Rock and fans got an inside look at the new movie, her journey in music, and the advice she wishes she’d had along the way.

“I wish that I had gotten advice, and I think it would have saved me a lot of trial and errors, like, figuring out s*** my own kind of thing,” Lovato, 33, told Kelce. “I’m grateful for the path I’ve had without a mentor [and] without advice from others. I would love to be a mentor to somebody and guide someone through the journey that I went on.”

“There’s no manual on how to be a pop star, and there’s certain things I would tell [them],” she continued. She also revealed she’s already passed along some guidance to the new Camp Rock cast.

“I actually did give, like, a mini pep talk to the new cast of Camp Rock when I first met them. I met them as a group and I was, like, ‘Hey guys,’ and I gave them some advice like, ‘Don’t be afraid to ask for time off, like, take care of yourself first. It’s really important that you take care of your mental health so you can do the other things you want to do, like performing and acting.’”

Lovato stressed, “‘If you don’t have your mental health or if you get burnt out, that can all go away. It’s important to take care of yourself.’”

Fans of the franchise also have reason to celebrate: Lovato is executive producing Camp Rock 3 alongside Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas, who are all reprising their roles. Maria Canals-Barrera is also returning as Mitchie’s mom.

According to a press release, the new movie “picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing. As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances.”

Asked about a possible cameo, Lovato teased, “I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see. We are making way for the new generation to shine their light as bright as they are, and it’s just really exciting to see a new generation step into the footsteps of us. It’s beautiful to watch a generation of new actors and performers have their moment, and I can’t wait to see the final product.”

Lovato also shared a personal Disney throwback with her husband, Jordan Lutes: “I watched Camp Rock a couple years ago [to show my husband,] Jordan [Lutes because] he wasn’t a Disney kid growing up, so he didn’t see any of that. I had to educate him. We still have yet to watch Camp Rock 2, and I haven’t shown him [my other movie] Princess Protection Program.”

Recalling his reaction to the first movie, Lovato said, “He thought it was cute. He’s, like, ‘This is where you got your start. That’s amazing.’”
