John and Emily met through a mutual friend at a restaurant in 2008. “I was sort of aware that he was vaguely recognizable,” she joked on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “It’s like kind of a sad, lame story. Not sad, it’s just kind of lame. I was sitting with a mutual friend. My friend goes, ‘Oh my god, there is my friend John’ and that was it! It’s cinema gold.”

John proposed to Emily in L.A. “She did cry after I cried,” he confessed to Access Hollywood. “Then everyone around us was crying. Then, I think people weren’t really sure what was going on, but they were crying because we were crying. But it was great. At the end of the day, she said yes, which is great.”
