Just because summer is over, it doesn’t mean Emily Ratajkowski is done showing off her sizzling hot body. The 28-year-old recently took to her Instagram Story to flaunt her amazing abs in a mirror selfie video, and she’s the fitspo we all need ahead of winter.

In the clip, the model wore a yellow long sleeve crop top with what appears to be black sweat pants. Can we say ‘queen of chic and casual?’ While we’re used to seeing Em appear so confident, that wasn’t always the case. In August, the brunette beauty opened up about a time in her life she felt very uncomfortable in her own skin. It all started when a pal made a comment about her femininity that didn’t sit well with her.

“Two summers ago, while vacationing with my friend and her girlfriend, my friend made an offhand remark about me being ‘hyper femme,'” she admitted in Harper’s Bazaar cover issue at the time. “It kind of threw me because in many ways, probably like anyone would, I felt that her comment was an oversimplification of my identity. In my day-to-day life, I was not aware of being femme or masc or anything but just me. Her observation surprised me and made me feel suddenly self-conscious.”

However, Emily decided the best way to overcome this insecurity was to simply continue being herself — regardless of what others thought. “Despite the countless experiences I’ve had in which I was made to feel extremely ashamed and, at times, even gross for playing with sexiness, it felt good to play with my feminine side then, and it still does now,” she said. “I like feeling sexy in the way that makes me, personally, feel sexy. Period.”

For the magazine cover, Emily posed with hairy armpits, which she used to make a statement about choice. “If I decide to shave my armpits or grow them out, that’s up to me,” she continued. “For me, body hair is another opportunity for women to exercise their ability to choose — a choice based on how they want to feel and their associations with having or not having body hair.” We can all learn something from this!
