She Said Yes! Emma Stone and SNL’s Dave McCary Are Engaged
She said yes! Emma Stone and her now-fiancé Dave McCary are officially engaged. The actress and SNL writer and director have done their best to keep their relationship private, but they went public with their big news on Wednesday, December 4. Emma, 31, flashed her sparkling ring to the camera as she and Dave, 34, snapped a selfie. The improv comedian captioned his photo with a simple heart emoji.
Though the couple tend to avoid cameras, news broke that they were seeing each other back in October 2017. However, an insider close to the couple exclusively spilled to Life & Style that November that they’d already been romantically involved for months. “They’ve been dating since January,” the source spilled at the time, revealing that sparks started flying after the La La Land star hosted Saturday Night Live in December 2016. He directed her in one of the night’s sketches, “Wells for Boys.”
It didn’t take long for the funny man’s coworkers to notice that there was something going on. “Word of them hanging out started to circulate around the office,” the insider revealed to Life & Style. “Dave kept it under wraps because he’s a private guy. … He’s definitely not someone who was looking for a celebrity girlfriend.” During the 2017 season premier, however, Emma did make an appearance. She and the director sat together in the audience as musical guest Jay-Z performed.
Though they still keep their private life private, the couple made a rare public appearance together at the 2019 SAG Awards back in January. At the time, the actress was nominated for two of her roles — Female Actor in a Supporting Role for The Favourite and Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for Maniac. The also attended the Golden Globe Awards earlier that month, where the famous redhead had snagged another nomination for the royal flick. It’s clear her boo had her back during awards season.
Now, fans are celebrating the stars’ engagement. “Emma Stone is marrying the director of ‘Wells for Boys,’ further cementing its status as the greatest SNL sketch of all time,” one wrote on Twitter. “Big congratulations to Emma Stone and Dave McCary!” another added. “Engaged!”
