Before officially changing her last name to Bieber, Hailey Baldwin made sure it was OK with her dad, actor Stephen Baldwin. The model, 22, revealed the decision to rid herself of her family name and honor her husband’s was major for her, and it meant a lot for her father to approve.

“I’m very proud of my family name,” Baldwin told Bustle. “I come from a great family with a history in this industry. I remember when I was going to change it, I asked my dad if he was going to be upset and he was like, ‘No! I don’t care. We love you. All good, everyone still knows you’re a Baldwin.’ It’s true!”

Hailey and Justin casually tied the knot in September 2018 at a New York City courthouse. Though it’s been a while since they said “I do,” Hailey revealed taking Bieber as her surname wasn’t something that felt completely natural at first. “It took some getting used to, for sure. It’s definitely strange, it takes adjusting,” she admitted. But that’s expected when you’ve identified yourself by a specific name your entire life.

Like all couples, the TV host and singer face challenges every now and then. They recently admitted that their relationship isn’t as picture perfect as it seems, but that they’re dedicated to making it work.

“We’re coming from a really genuine place. But we’re two young people who are learning as we go,” Hailey told Vogue. “I’m not going to sit here and lie and say it’s all a magical fantasy. It’s always going to be hard. It’s a choice. You don’t feel it every single day. You don’t wake up every day saying, ‘I’m absolutely so in love and you are perfect.’ That’s not what being married is. But there’s something beautiful about it anyway — about wanting to fight for something, commit to building with someone.” That’s love right there!
