While promoting the novel, Jennette opened up about a real-life relationship she had with an older man when she was a teenager, though she never identified him by name. Speaking on “Call Her Daddy” in January 2026, she recalled, “I was most likely 18,” before describing how she felt pressured to mirror his interests. “He would show me movies that he thought I would like… which I did not like but I pretended to like. He would play me music that I did not like, but I pretended to like.”

She also shared a troubling memory from early in the relationship. “I remember he came over drunk one night to my apartment,” Jennette said, explaining that she had only recently moved out of her mother’s home and had no frame of reference for alcohol. “He was drunk off his ass, but I didn’t know… So, he comes over really drunk, and we make out, and it’s a lot of dry humping. And it’s that for months.”

Jennette reportedly met Paul Glaser while he was working as a script manager on iCarly.

She previously opened up about their relationship in a 2015 interview with Vulture, with the outlet noting that Paul was “a man 13 years her senior who worked on iCarly.”

“People online would make very rude comments about him and say, What a creep to have had an eye on her for so long. But they didn’t know the whole story,” Jennette said. “That’s an instance when I really resented social media because I thought, These people are making it hard on me.”
