Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson ‘Have a Ton of Unresolved Issues’ Amid Split Speculation
Where did his ring go? Jessica Simpson’s husband, Eric Johnson, stepped out in Los Angeles on November 12 sans wedding band ,further fueling rumors that he and the “Irresistible”singer, 44, have split. “Jessica and Eric have been butting heads and living separate lives for an extremely long time,” a source close to the duo, who share daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, and son Ace, 11, exclusively tells Life & Style. “They have a ton of unresolved issues in the marriage that have been simmering for years and now seem to be reaching a boiling point.”
Even the parents at their children’s California school have started to notice. Page Six reports that Jessica used to attend events on her own or with Eric, but that lately, the former football player, 45, has been showing up solo. Entertainment Tonight has also heard that there have been “rumblings about Eric being overly flirtatious during their relationship, especially when he drinks.”
While TMZ claims that a friend and associate of Jessica’s has reached out to two divorce lawyers in recent months, Life & Style’s source says that nothing has been formally initiated yet. “Jessica clearly wants Eric to get his act together,” the source notes. “But she won’t stick around in limbo forever.”
Jessica has been seemingly hinting at their apparent split by posting cryptic posts via social media. Not only did she ignore Eric’s September 15 birthday on social media, but she also shared a more recent cryptic post while teasing her return to music in November.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned sultry photos of herself that she shared via Instagram. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Shortly after she uploaded the post, several fans rushed to the comments section to wonder if the caption was alluding to their suspected split. “Is this J Simp saying she’s single?” one user wondered, and another directly responded, “I think her photos have been saying that for months.”
In light of the split rumors, an additional insider exclusively told Life & Style in late October that “Jessica has been reevaluating her happiness, her marriage and her business empire, and she is ready to start fresh.”
“It’s pretty much over between her and Eric; it’s only a matter of time before she files for divorce,” the source added.
After noting that Eric has “always been supportive and an amazing father,” the insider continued, “They tried couples counseling, which worked for a while, but then things went back to the way they were. They don’t spend nearly as much time together as they used to, and they’ve just grown apart.”
A third insider revealed on October 18 that he had reached his “breaking point” in their marriage. “Eric has had it with her crazy mood swings,” the source told Life & Style. “And Jessica feels like their marriage has lost its romance. Everyone’s wondering how long they can go on like this.”
