Jessie James Decker Finally Broke Her Silence on Her Husband Eric’s Retirement from the NFL
A day after her husband, Eric Decker, announced his retirement from the NFL, Jessie James Decker has finally broken her silence on the subject. Mirroring the pro athlete’s own statement, she took to Instagram to share her thoughts. “Yesterday was an emotional day,” she started. “My amazing hubby decided to retire from playing football and I couldn’t be more proud of him and his decision. I cried, smiled and ultimately respected his choice to finish this chapter to start another.”
To commemorate the moment, she shared a picture of the celebrity couple from when they first started dating. “This pic was from the first football season I ever shared with him his second year for the broncos. I loved every minute cheering him on in the stands, meeting amazing friends along the way, bringing our new babies and toddlers to the games as they chanted ‘daddy football daddy football’ in the car on the way the stadium each Sunday.”
The singer-songwriter shared just how proud she is of all her husband has accomplished, writing, “I have loved every moment of the last seven years watching my husband kick some serious ass!” Now, though, she’s ready to look towards the future. Not just to “share the next adventure,” but also to follow through on some of the other promises her husband made the family! “You said you were going to drive that beat up old Chevy Tahoe [you] got in college and ride it through the ground until you finished playing football, can we please get a new one now? Lol,” she teased, adding the hashtag #footballisfamily.
For the Deckers, the “football is family” sentiment certainly isn’t anything new. Not only has football been a huge part of the family’s lives for the last few years, it’s also been something they gather around and celebrate. Just last week, in another Instagram post, Jessie captioned it, “family is football.”
While Eric may be done playing with the pros, football will always be family for Jessie, her husband, and her kids — and family will always be football.
