Joan Vassos Admits She’s at ‘Different Places’ With 4 Remaining Men in ‘Golden Bachelorette’ Preview

Joan Vassos seemed hopeful about her future heading into hometown dates on The Golden Bachelorette. In a preview for the Wednesday, October 23, episode, the leading lady opened up about how she was feeling before heading to meet the families of her final 4 men: Pascal Ibgui, Chock Chapple, Jordan Heller and Guy Gansert.

“I get to meet these lovely mens’ families,” Joan, 61, said. “It’s a big deal. But hometowns look different at our age. All four of these men have very rich lives. They have kids. And family is so important to me.”

The Maryland native admitted she was in “different places with each” of the men and wasn’t “at the ‘love’ place yet because [she’s] very protective of [her] heart.” However, she said she was “moving in that direction.”

“I hope this is a transformative week,” Joan concluded. “And that I’ll be in a really good place to have one, you know, actual love.”

Like Joan, all of the men in the final 4 have children from previous relationships. Pascal, 70, is the father of three children, Jordan, 61, has three daughters, Guy, 66, is a dad of four and Chock, 61, has two kids. Meanwhile, Joan and her late husband, John Vassos, welcomed four kids during their 32-year marriage. John died from pancreatic cancer in 2021.

In another preview for hometown dates, Joan got emotional as she realized that things weren’t going exactly as she planned. “The conversations are not what I expected,” she shared, through tears. “Now I might leave with nobody.”

Who Do You Want to See as the Next Golden Bachelor?

Although the preview footage doesn’t tell the full story, there was one scene where Chock asked, “Is this real?” and another where Guy questioned, “Should I guard my heart?” The editing also made it appear that Joan had a tough conversation with Pascal’s eldest daughter, Natalie.

While the camera flashed to Pascal’s face, Joan could be heard saying, “Your father is the one I worry about.” In another shot, Natalie said, “He is not going to pick you.” However, it’s unclear who the women were speaking to at each of those moments.

Joan began her journey with 24 men and has had to make some tough eliminations to get to this point. Ahead of hometown dates, she sent home Jonathan Rone, Keith Gordon and Kelsey Anderson’s dad, Mark Anderson. Fans were especially devastated by Mark’s departure, as viewers had fallen in love with him months before The Golden Bachelorette since he was there for Kelsey’s hometown date with Joey Graziadei on The Bachelor.

“So proud of you for putting yourself out there dad,” Kelsey, 26, wrote on Instagram after Mark’s elimination. “I love you so much.”

Mark, 57, had nothing but positive things to say about his experience on the show. In his own post, he wrote, “I am thankful…I am hopeful…I feel blessed. I started a journey hopeful for a future. I departed with so much more than I [started] with. I am blessed to have met Joan, a radiant, and caring woman who stood tall and navigated this with poise and grace. I met this incredible group of men that have enriched the core of my being. Thank you for the encouragement and support that has been shared throughout this journey it has truly changed my life for the better!”

The Golden Bachelorette airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
