Talented, handsome and supportive of mental health awareness? Joe Jonas truly is one of the best celebrity husbands in the game. Shortly after his wife, Sophie Turner, opened up in a recent interview about her struggles with depression, the “Sucker” singer came forward to show his praise.

“It’s a lot,” Joe, 29, told Extra ahead of the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday, May 1. “I think the best thing about it is she can encourage other young people out there who are going through similar stuff and be a voice that they can listen to … I am proud of her.”

A voice, indeed! Given Sophie’s fame á la Game of Thrones, among many other projects, the 23-year-old has an incredibly large platform — and we’re so pleased to see that she isn’t afraid to be vulnerable with her fans.

“The biggest challenge is just for me getting out of bed and getting out of the house and learning to love yourself I think is the biggest challenge,” she said of her depression.

“It only started to kind of go downhill I think when I started to hit puberty, and really puberty, though, at like 17,” she continued. “My metabolism was like slowing down massively, and I was gaining weight. And then there was the social media scrutiny and everything, and that was when it kind of hit me.”

Thankfully, through therapy, treatment and her relationship with Joe, Sophie’s mental health has vastly improved. “I love myself now, or more than I used to, I think. I don’t think I love myself at all, but I’m now with someone that makes me realize, you know, that I do have some redeeming qualities, I suppose,” she expressed.

Redeeming qualities? Yeah, you can say that again, girl. Thank you for sharing your story, Sophie. You’re an inspiration to us all.
