We’re sorry to crush your heart if you’re a major Adam Levine fan. The singer, 40, is leaving The Voice after 16 seasons. On the bright side, Gwen Stefani will be replacing him.

The Voice’s official Twitter account announced the news on Friday, May 24. “Our friend and coach Adam Levine made the decision not to return next season. We’re going to miss Adam, but The Voice is family, and with family, it’s ‘see you soon,’ never ‘goodbye,'” the tweet began.

“Gwen returns with Kelly [Clarkson], John [Legend] and Blake [Shelton] on The Voice stage this fall. Join us in welcoming back Gwen, and sharing our heartfelt gratitude to Adam!” it concluded.

The Maroon 5 frontman also shared a lengthy emotional message about his time on the show, which started in 2011. “About eight years ago, Mark Burnett convinced us to sign up for this show where you sit in a big red chair with your back turned away from the singers on the stage. First thank you must go to Mark,” he began his Instagram caption. He then went on to share it was a life-shaping experience, before thanking his colleagues. “Thank you to every single coach I ever sat in those chairs with. That is shared experience that is singularly ours,” he continued. “We have that for life.”

Naturally, the show wouldn’t have success without its fans so he made sure to also shout them out. “Thank you to everyone who supported this long strange and amazing left turn into a place I never thought I’d go.”

Lastly, he gave a special thank you to Blake, Kelly and John. “And, BLAKE F–KIN’ SHELTON. I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried. Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it,” he added. “Our friendship is and always will be one for the books. Whatever this whole surreal experience was, I’m just happy I got to experience it with you. You’re my brother for life. Kelly and John, take care of the cowboy and I’m sure I’ll be back to say hi very very soon. So much love to you both.”

We’re sad to see Adam go, but excited to see Gwen and Blake work together again!
