Fans Outraged After Kim Kardashian Spotted With Alleged Elephant Bag in ‘All’s Fair’
Kim Kardashian is no stranger to sparking fashion debates — but this time, fans think she may have crossed a serious line.
The reality star-turned-actress is facing backlash after viewers spotted what appears to be a rare Hermès elephant-leather bag in All’s Fair, her new Hulu legal drama where she plays high-powered attorney Allura Grant.
It all started when fashion creator Daniel Wesson — better known online as Birkin Junky — posted an Instagram Reel on November 21. In the clip, Kim, 45, is seen holding a gray Hermès bag onscreen, with additional behind-the-scenes shots of her posing with the same purse. The moment sparked immediate outrage.
“This is … Beyond,” Ireland Baldwin wrote in the comments, visibly horrified. The 30-year-old model doubled down on her Instagram Stories, calling the bag “so disgusting and shameful,” adding, “I don’t understand how these people are supported the way they are.”
Ireland wasn’t alone. Critics flooded Wesson’s comments accusing Kim of glamorizing the use of exotic skins — specifically elephant leather. According to Wesson, Hermès stopped producing elephant-skin bags decades ago, but a small number were created in the 1980s when a client provided hide from a hunting safari. “They rarely pop up but when they do, they take the internet by storm,” he wrote.
PETA has also noted that while Hermès never officially sold elephant bags, the brand did craft limited pieces, which have since resurfaced through high-end resellers like 1stDibs. And of course, Kim is famously a Birkin collector, so the possibility of her sourcing a rare vintage piece doesn’t seem far-fetched to fans.
As for how the questionable accessory made it into All’s Fair, Kim’s stylist Soki Mak has previously explained how each of Kim’s looks was intentionally crafted.
Mak told Us Weekly that they always knew the fashion on the show would spark conversation. “What we were trying to convey with Allura is that she doesn’t give a s*** what other people think,” Mak said. “She has her own style and has fun with it.”
Mak added that Kim’s confidence is key. “The confidence comes with a woman who can wear clothes, not let them wear her.” Some outfits — including the viral Gaultier look with the thong detail — were “exaggerated for TV,” she said, admitting even crew members were confused. But Kim and Ryan Murphy “got it straight away.”
Of course, this isn’t Kim’s first fashion controversy. Fans still remember the uproar when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” gown to the 2022 Met Gala — a move conservators heavily criticized.
