Kylie Kelce Shares Her True Thoughts on the Term ‘WAG’ — and Offers an Alternative

Kylie Kelce may be the wife of former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, but don’t call her a WAG.

WAG is an acronym that is often used to refer to the “wives and girlfriends” of high-profile professional athletes.

While the term’s definition may seem literal, many have considered its usage to be offensive due to the fact that it defines a group of women by their husbands’ jobs.

Kylie has openly voiced that she is not a fan of the term in past podcast episodes and interviews.

During the recent NFL edition of “The Chat” from WhatsApp and OffBall, this prompted Emma Samocki, the producer of Kylie’s “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, to ask Kylie to address a question from the chat. “WAGs is a dumb name. So what should NFL spouses be called?”

Kylie responded simply, “Oooooo!! How about their names!”

Kylie’s response was short and to the point, reinforcing her stance that the partners of professional athletes should still be defined by their own accomplishments, not by the profession of their partner.

In the February 20 episode of the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, Kylie elaborated on her feelings around the term.

“I personally do not identify as a WAG,” she explained in the episode. “I’ve always found that there is a certain degree of, like, a negative connotation with the term WAG. And the sad part is that I don’t think that everyone intends it, but the vast majority is usually in some type of negative capacity.”

“So often I think the term WAG pigeonholes women,” she continued later in the episode. “I do think that there are some women, very sadly, who get sucked into that hole of thinking they should be defined by their spouse or their significant other’s role on the team.”
