It’s been a rocky few days for Riverdale star Lili Reinhart as she’s tried to combat a lot of hate on social media. The actress seems to be a common target of criticism on Twitter and it definitely gets under her skin. It weighs so heavily on the starlet that she recently announced she was taking a break from Twitter because of the toxicity. It was obviously a short-lived hiatus because Lili may have taken things a step too far as she was clapping back at Twitter trolls via Instagram on Jan. 2. The photos, that included Lili giving the finger to the camera, looked to be what sparked an apology on Jan. 3.
“I give too much of myself to those people. The last people on earth who deserve it,” Lili, 22, wrote on her Instagram Story which seemingly referred to her haters. “For letting them spark a reaction out of me. When I know all too well that the moment will pass. I’m still me. They’re still them.” She continued, “Judging my pictures and words, without actually seeing anything or knowing any part of me. The sticky spiderweb that they create seems to trap me every time. But I seem to be the one biting myself at the end.”
The actress explained that trolls “will never know” her and that she’s “worth too much” to acknowledge that “their web even exists.” She wrapped up the post by adding, “Each year brings new lessons. This is one of mine. Value yourself. And the parts of yourself that are your own. That no one else can touch.”
On Jan. 2, Lili posted a photo on her Instagram Story of herself sipping on a drink with a friend while the two vacationed together. “Hey Twitter trolls,” she captioned the snapshot. “I’m in a tropical paradise drinking strawberry coladas and exploring an island, lol what u doin?” She followed it up with a photo of herself giving the middle finger to the camera and added, “It’s 2019, a—holes. Bite me.”
While fans have declared Lili’s clap back the “mood” of 2019, it seems like the starlet felt as though she had to explain herself a bit further as to what fueled the surprising posts. Lili has never been shy when it comes to admitting the tough lessons she’s learned from fame.
Hopefully, she’ll be able to surround herself with more positivity this year!
