‘Love Is Blind’ Showrunner Say Fights Not Being Filmed Was a ‘Detriment’ to the Couples
Love Is Blind showrunner Chris Coelen wasn’t pleased with the fact that several arguments between the couples weren’t caught on camera in season 7.
Alex Byrd and Tim Godbee had a couple of arguments during their time on the show, but none of them were filmed for viewers to see. However, Alex, 33, later addressed what went down behind the scenes with Tim, 33, during the reunion.
“I love that they ultimately did that on the reunion,” Chris, 56, said during an interview with Salon that was published on November 1, “But I think it was to their detriment that they didn’t do it during the experiment itself.”
Chris explained that while he was “all for being really transparent and open about whatever people are talking about” during filming, he ultimately believed that it was damaging to the couples’ relationships to not have these conversations in front of a camera.
“It just creates a negativity. And the people who are much more open about, ‘Hey, I’ve got an issue,’ ‘Hey, I’m feeling a certain way’ . . . Ultimately, whether they work out or not, benefit from that,” Chris told the publication. “We’re not filming with them 24/7. We only know what they tell us. And I know sometimes that’s frustrating for a viewer like, why weren’t they there? Because we’re not ‘Big Brother.’ We aren’t there all the time.”
Fans were left wondering about several conversations during Love Is Blind season 7, but the most notable one was between Alex and Tim. Viewers saw the former couple at a party the night before, but the next scene showed that Tim hadn’t slept in the same room as Alex, and it was obvious that something went down between the two. While the audience got snippets of the events that led to their fight, it wasn’t fully explained until the reunion, which aired on October 30, almost a month after the first episodes dropped.
“What you didn’t get to see was a verbal disagreement,” Alex explained to hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey. “As you saw, I’m very close to my family, and my dad had been admitted to a rehab facility a week before I left [to film Love Is Blind]. Being three weeks not talking to them, it just kind of weighed in on me at that moment, and I just wanted space.”

Alex added that when she wasn’t “given the space that she wanted,” it turned into a disagreement. Tim then added his own version of the incident.
“She had left before me at the pool party, and I was trying to catch her,” Tim said. “I could tell she was upset so in my head, I’m thinking, ‘OK, this is my fiancée. I want to be there for her.’ So, I approach her and say, ‘Hey, are you OK? What’s going on?’ We’re in this hotel bathroom. Everything’s been good to this point for me.”
Tim revealed that Alex was “crying on the floor” and he was “trying to figure out what was going on” and that’s when the argument escalated. Alex had previously admitted that she “put her hand over Tim’s mouth” during their spat, and both parties wanted to clarify that in no way was it “assault.” However, Alex explained that she covered Tim’s mouth in an attempt to avoid the cameras filming their fight.
“I’m literally put in a position where I’m trying to prevent production [from coming in and seeing] this fight, like, this argument we’re having,” Alex said. “I don’t want it to seem like we’re in a bad space or that I don’t want cameras to come in and make him look bad. Simple as that. I was trying to protect him. I just wanted to de-escalate the entire situation so that we could just go to sleep and revisit it in the morning.”
