If you’re a dating reality show junkie, you’re going to love this. One of the UK’s most popular reality shows, Love Island, is officially getting an American adaptation. The show combines reality faves like Bachelor in Paradise and Ex on the Beach, with couples fighting to win money by being the strongest union at the end. Contestants can switch partners, send others home, and compete in fun challenges to advance to the next week, all while trying to find The One. Fans of the British show (which also has iterations in Australia and Germany) are certainly thrilled to get a new version right here in the USA, but there’s still a lot of question marks. Here’s what we know about the new show so far!
What channel will Love Island USA air on?
On Aug. 8 it was revealed that CBS partnered with production company ITV to bring the hit show to America. The network is already responsible for several popular reality shows like Big Brother (which also has a British sister), Survivor, and The Amazing Race. This show could potentially compete with ABC’s BIP, and CBS’ head of alternative programming Sharon Vuong is particularly excited about it.
“Love Island has been a massive success overseas,” said Vuong. “It’s currently seen, or about to premiere in several European countries as well as Australia, and we’re thrilled that ITV has partnered with us to bring their most successful show to American television. Having seen the reaction of audiences ‘across the pond’ and around the world to this most recent season, we expect American viewers will be captivated by this engaging format. Additionally, Love Island is more than a pop sensation; this series has generated compelling ‘sociological think pieces’ in major publications here and abroad.”
When will Love Island USA start?
It sounds like we’re going to have to wait a while. So far, there is no publicized timeline for casting of the show or when it will begin filming or airing, but fans are definitely anxious to get it going.
“How is #ITV addressing how #BachelorInParadise ripped off #LoveIsland? Love Island: America – that’s how. When that ish airs, RIP #BIP,” said one excited fan. “Can’t wait till love island comes out in America ????⁉️✅?,” said another.
Who will host Love Island USA?
So far, there have been no announcements about who will host America’s Love Island. The British version is hosted by Caroline Flack, who won their answer to Dancing with the Stars called Strictly Come Dancing, as well as several other reality shows. So, perhaps CBS will take notes and use one of their own reality stars!
