Camila Coelho
Brazilian-born Camila Coelho has been called a “mega-influencer” thanks to her massive online following she grew after launching a YouTube channel while working the Dior counter as a makeup artist in 2011. Fast forward to present day and Coelho has worked with major brands including Lancome, Louis Vuitton and even Dior (she can get more than $10K for a single social media shout-out) while also launching her own clothing line with online retailer Revolve. The 31-year-old lives in Boston with husband Icaro Brenner but is no stranger to the glitz and glamour that comes along with being one of the most influential: Coelho has been spotted on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival and attended this year’s Met Gala in NYC. But for the beauty guru, it’s all about being authentic for her legion of dedicated fans. “When I do a collaboration, if it’s beauty or fashion, I like to be 100 percent involved in each product we’re creating because I want it to be very me,” Camila has said. “My followers will also know that it is me.”

Jeffree Star
In the world of beauty influencers, video tutorials and product reviews are key. And self-described “makeup magician” Jeffree Star has amassed an audience of many millions with his larger-than-life (and sometimes controversial) personality, showing off not only his beauty routine and products but behind-the-scenes moments with husband Nathan and their five Pomeranian pups. A former singer-songwriter from Orange County, California, Jeffree first found popularity as one of the most followed people on MySpace and was an early adopter of using YouTube as a platform to garner fame and fortune. “I joined YouTube with my polarizing personality, being so cutthroat, brutally honest, not ever taking money for reviews,” Star has admitted. “I came in really hot.” As the cofounder of Jeffree Star Cosmetics and a collaboration with Morphe, the 33-year-old entrepreneur has a net worth of more than $50 million, thanks to his online presence.

Naomi Giannopoulos
After a longtime career as a makeup artist, breaking into the world of beauty influencers was a natural next step for Naomi Giannopolous. Based in Las Vegas — as her online handle VegasNay suggests — Naomi joined the social media scene in 2011 and is now known and loved for her video tutorials (she favors Instagram as her preferred platform) showing off different lip and eye combinations. Even though VegasNay recently launched her own line of false eyelashes and cosmetics, she still shills for other brands and can command over $17K per post.

Manny Gutierrez
After ditching his plan to attend medical school, Manny Gutierrez started working at the Sephora and MAC makeup counters while figuring out what to do next; now he’s one of the most recognizable names in the industry. The 28-year-old expert shows off his skills in viral YouTube and Instagram videos and takes pride in being the first male ambassador for Maybelline. “I believe makeup is GenderLESS and has no rules!” Manny, the CEO of Lunar Beauty, has said on his channel. He also uses his voice and massive platform to connect with others struggling to find their way. “Growing up in a religious household, it was just kind of hard for me,” the California native who has an estimated net worth of more than $1 million, has said. “My parents didn’t really understand me, so I was always kind of fighting this internal battle.”

Shayla Mitchell
Shayla Mitchell had just graduated from Arizona State University and was working at a MAC store in Santa Monica, California, when Instagram launched. On the advice of her store manager, Mitchell started posting her work on the social media site — and she hasn’t looked back. “When Instagram first started it was all pictures, so I posted my eye looks and from there I started to get more followers and then people started to book me [for freelance work] off that,” Shayla has said. Now L.A.-based Mitchell is one of the most followed beauty bloggers online, has her own beauty line with ColourPop, landed a collaboration with Maybelline to create a trio of the Colossal Big Shot Mascara colors as well as a six-shade the City Mini eyeshadow palette and gets paid nearly $5K per post for sponsored content. Not bad for a woman who was forbidden to wear makeup until her late teens. “I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I went to junior prom,” Shayla has revealed. “My mom just never let me wear makeup. She always told me ‘You’re beautiful without makeup! You don’t need it!’”

Michelle Phan
Since 2007, makeup artist extraordinaire Michelle Phan has released more than 300 videos, getting 1 billion views and counting. In short, she’s a powerhouse in the beauty vlogging space — and she just keeps growing and adding to her empire. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, the 32-yearold Boston native got in early on the YouTube scene, and it made her a star in the industry. After releasing Em Cosmetics with L’Oreal in 2013 (it had lackluster sales and Phan eventually took back full control of the line), Phan did the unthinkable: she vanished from social media. “I peaced out because I think I was going through depression,” Michelle has revealed. Taking nearly a year off to travel, Phan returned with a new focus and now has a reported net worth of $50 million.

Nikkie De Jager
Dutch beauty blogger Nikkie De Jager has Lauren Conrad to thank for her success. While sick in bed and watching Conrad on MTV’s reality series The Hills in 2008, De Jager, then just 14 years old, started searching YouTube for “The Hills makeup.” She stumbled upon natural beauty expert Sandy Gold’s clips and was instantly hooked, making her own amateur videos and uploading them despite having no formal experience. Amsterdam-based Nikkie shot to fame after posting a make-up free video to her channel, which ended up going viral. “I thought I must be dreaming, this can’t be real,” Nikkie has said. “It was such a whirlwind, but I’m really proud that it happened, especially with that video.” Over a decade — and a handful of beauty classes — later, Nikkie is viewed by over 20 million online fans, has worked with celebs like Kim Kardashian and Drew Barrymore, as well as major brands, including Too Faced and Maybelline, and is said to have a net worth of over $6 million.

Ingrid Nilsen
Since getting her start on YouTube in 2009, Ingrid Nilsen has made quite a name for herself in the world of beauty bloggers, thanks to her raw and honest content. Nilsen, 30, was the first-ever Cover Girl Glambassador and has a deal with Bare Minerals cosmetics worth a reported $500,000 — reported to be the largest deal ever made with an influencer and a brand at the time. But Ingrid, who is half Thai and half Norwegian, is much more than just a perfectly made-up face: she once interviewed President Barack Obama; she fights for gender equality as a UN Ambassador; and a candid video where she came out as gay helped her connect with fans — and herself. “I think the biggest change has been the depth of my relationships all around, both online and offline,” Ingrid, who hails from Orange County, California, but now calls NYC home, said in 2017 when the vlog went live. “I’m closer to my friends than I ever have been, and I feel more connected to my community than ever before.”

Jen Atkin
Take a look at celebrity hair stylist Jen Atkin’s social media accounts and you will see just how star-studded her life is. That’s because the 39-year-old Utah native, who has been called the most influential hairstylist in the world, works on the manes the world’s most famous family: the Kardashian- Jenner’s. Jen moved to L.A. in 2000 with $300 in her pocket and hustled her way into some of the city’s top salons. She has worked with Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Cindy Crawford and even Madonna. But it was a 2011 photo shoot with reality queen Kim that truly change Atkin’s life. “Kim asked me to do her hair for the cover of Cosmo and it was on that job that I first met Khloé and Kourtney,” Jen has said. When she isn’t doing hair for her famous clientele — she charges $1,000-plus for a cut — Atkin can be seen traveling the world with Kim, Khloé, Kylie and the gang, posting candid photos and videos. “People ask me all the time, ‘What’s your strategy?’ and I’m like ‘There is no strategy,’” Jen, who is also the founder of Ouai hair products, has said. “It’s all organic. I’m showing you my life and my journey.”

James Charles
As far as beauty vloggers go, James Charles was a little late to the game. When he started posting makeup videos to YouTube in 2015, there were already a handful of supersuccessful beauty vloggers. No matter: James quickly racked up millions of followers and even became the first male ambassador for CoverGirl less than a year later at age 17. “I fell into makeup by accident, but I found my love for it,” James has said. “Once I realized that I could actually turn it into a huge business, that’s when I started taking it a little bit more seriously.” But Charles hasn’t had an easy road — comments he has made have landed him in hot water and a feud with long-time collaborator Tati Westbrook cost Charles nearly 3 million subscribers in May 2019. But the drama hasn’t held the 20-year-old makeup artist back from finding fortune and fame: James, now worth a reported $12 million, has a beauty line with Morphe, a clothing company called Sisters Apparel and earns a whopping $37,000 per sponsored post.
