Talk about estranged. The new Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle should be soaking up every moment of pure wedded bliss after she married Prince Harry in an extravagant royal wedding back in May, but it seems like her own father can’t just be happy for her. Thomas Markle slammed his daughter in a scathing tell-all interview with The Mail on Sunday, and he accused the royal family of cutting off all communication between him and Meghan.
“I’m really hurt that she’s cut me off completely. I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the Palace, but after I said a few critical words about the Royal Family changing Meghan, they cut me off,” Thomas told The Mail on Sunday. “Those numbers were disconnected, they no longer work. I have no way of contacting my daughter.”
Thomas said that he had been hoping to send a birthday card to his estranged daughter for her upcoming birthday on Aug. 4, but he feared that it would get lost with all of the other cards from adoring fans. He claimed that Meghan has distanced herself from her father ever since he posed for staged paparazzi photos one week before her wedding, and it didn’t help that he missed out on the chance of walking his daughter down the aisle because he suffered a heart attack just days before the wedding and couldn’t travel.
But Meghan’s father’s biggest fear is that their estrangement will prevent him from having a relationship with Meghan and Harry’s children.
“What’s sad is that some time in the next year Meghan and Harry will have a baby and I’ll be a grandfather, and if we’re not speaking I won’t see my grandchild,” Thomas said. “How tragic is that, to deprive a child of its grandfather because I said a few things critical of the Royal Family?”
