Patrick Schwarzenegger Reveals Why ‘White Lotus’ Role Was Special to His Family: ‘Surreal Moment’
The White Lotus has taken our screens one Sunday (or binge watch) at a time. The hit HBO Max show has captivated viewers with its thrilling storyline and quirky characters.
One of the show’s biggest stars — Patrick Schwarzenegger — recently appeared on the Australian hit podcast “Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren” to discuss his worldwide fame and his family’s reaction to landing his breakout role as Saxon Ratliff.
While he may be used to fame on the streets of Los Angeles, Patrick, 31, said he was shocked at how popular The White Lotus is in Australia. “We were just walking around Sydney downtown yesterday, and I was actually kind of shocked how many people were running up to me and saying, ‘Saxon, Saxon!’ I didn’t know that it was such a big show here. So, it’s been awesome.”
When discussing the show, Patrick explained that his friends and family don’t know what is going to happen each episode, including his fiancé, Abby Champion.
“It’s kind of funny because friends and family will say ‘Just tell me. Just tell me. Just tell me.’ Then they’ll go, ‘No, don’t tell me. Actually, I don’t want to know.’ So, it’s like this mix of them wanting to know and not wanting to know,” said Patrick.
“On Mondays [after the U.S. version airs on Sundays], my fiancé sits down with me at dinner and she’s on Tik Tok and Instagram, and she’s coming up with all these theories and boiling them down for me and then taking snippets of her favorite parts and telling me,” he said. “So it’s yeah, the family affair thing is, they all love to give their input!”
Speaking of his family, Patrick detailed the special moment he got the news that he would be cast as Saxon alongside his mom, Maria Shriver.
“It was just a really surreal moment,” said Patrick. “When I lived with my mom during COVID, it was me, my fiancé and my mom, us three together, and we were just kind of like everybody else, just binging different shows, finding shows that we really loved, and we became obsessed with The White Lotus, season 1, and then season 2. We made it a thing where every Sunday night dinner we would come over to my mom’s and we’d all watch it together,” he explained.
“So, I think it’s just kind of like a little cherry on top to get it, to be part of a show that your family, you kind of watched all together, that you guys all love together… my mom was more excited than I was,” he added. “She was freaking out!”
While he’s enjoying the moment the show is currently having, Patrick is staying humble and hopeful when asked if he would make a return to the next White Lotus, which is rumored to take place around the Great Barrier Reef. “I don’t know anything! I really don’t! I hope that I get called back if I’ve survived this season, I would love to come back here.”
