Rachael Kirkconnell Confirms Infidelity Wasn’t the Reason for Matt James Breakup
Rachael Kirkconnell has spoken out following her split from ex Matt James, and she confirmed that infidelity was not the reason they broke up.
While arriving at LAX on Monday, January 27, Rachael, 28, was asked if infidelity played a role in their split. “No, not at all,” she said in footage obtained by TMZ.
The former Bachelor contestant went on to insist that there’s no chance she and Matt, 33, will get back together.
“It’s nothing that you can prepare for, so yeah. You just take it one day at a time,” Rachael said when she was asked how she was navigating the breakup while in the public eye. “I think things will start to come out and I’ll speak about it whenever I’m ready, but for now I’m just protecting my peace.”
The former reality star reflected on the split less than two weeks after Matt revealed that they called it quits after four years of dating.
“God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts. Give us a peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding,” he captioned a photo of him and Rachael meeting for the first time during his season of The Bachelor, which was uploaded via Instagram on January 16. “Shower our friends and family with kindness and love to comfort us. And remind us that our Joy comes from you, Lord.”
While neither Rachael nor Matt have revealed the real reason they decided to call it quits, a source exclusively told Life & Style that she was “blindsided” by the breakup. “From the moment they started their romance, Matt and Rachael have always had a questionable relationship,” the insider revealed in a story published on January 17. “Now that they’ve broken up for the second time, everyone wants to know one thing: ‘Was Rachael blindsided?’”
Meanwhile, the source added that Rachael’s “friends say she should have seen this coming.”
“There were many red flags. The biggest being that he’s had commitment issues from day one,” the insider shared.
One day before Rachael was spotted at the airport, she shut down a rumor that she and Matt reunited following their split. The speculation began when Gossip account Deuxmoi shared an anonymous tip on Sunday, January 26, that read, “Just left my apartment in kips bay and walked past matt james and rachael kirkconnell.”
Rachael didn’t let social media users believe the rumor for long, as she wrote in the comments section, “Hmm wasn’t me lol.”
The former couple began dating after they met on Matt’s season of The Bachelor in 2021. Rachael and Matt chose not to get engaged at the end of the season, though they decided to pursue their relationship after the show finished filming.
Rachael later found herself at the center of a racism scandal as the season was airing, which began when photos circulated online of her attending an antebellum-themed party when she was in college. Matt revealed that they split during the After the Final Rose episode, though the pair ultimately got back together months later.
