Selena Gomez’s Relationship With The Weeknd Is Upsetting Her Mom (EXCLUSIVE)

Selena Gomez and new boyfriend The Weeknd (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) are quickly heating up, with the brunette beauty joining the Grammy winner on tour in the last week. But not everyone approves of the entertainers’ coupling.

A source tells Life & Style that the Disney Channel alum’s mom, Mandy Cornett, is trying to break up the duo. “Mandy has heard the dirty and drug-related lyrics to Abel’s songs and she doesn’t approve of Selena hanging out and partying with him,” the insider shares, adding that the 40-year-old thinks the “Starboy” singer “is an inappropriate choice for Selena’s new healthy journey.”

As fans will recall, the “Spring Breakers” star spent 90 days in a rehab facility last fall for what she claimed were lupus-related panic attacks and anxiety. But her mother is terrified that the 24-year-old will backtrack in the progress she’s made since then.

“A lot of Selena’s friends and family fear that she’ll go down the wrong path again,” the source reveals. “They feel she needs to be surrounded by healthy people.”

The “Same Old Love” hitmaker was recently spotted supporting her bae, 27, at his concert in Germany on Feb. 25. “Mandy has met Abel and thinks he is respectful in person,” the source notes, “but she doesn’t think he’s a good influence on Selena.”

As Life & Style previously reported, the pair recently worked through some relationship issues after The Weeknd began feeling “suffocated” by the actress. “Selena’s paranoid that fans will be throwing themselves at The Weeknd and he’ll be tempted to stray,” an insider told In Touch. “She’s so scared that she’s threatened to dump him if he doesn’t let her come along on tour.”
