Target Brings Back a Beloved Sour Candy That Will Make 90s Babies Hearts & Taste Buds Happy
If you’re a ’90s kid feeling a bit nostalgic for your favorite childhood candy, you might be in luck. Altoids Sours are officially back–just under a new name and company.
Now called Retro Sours, a company called Iconic Candy has revived the early 2000s favorite, using the exact same recipe and keeping the same iconic round tin design.
They even brought back iconic original flavors like Tangerine, Mango, Citrus, and more.
The original Altoids Sours were in production from 2001 to 2010, when they were discontinued due to low demand.
The Iconic Candy website says the company is “family-owned and fueled by nostalgia” with a mission of reviving beloved candies that have gone out of production, like Altoids Sours.
While you can order the candy directly from the Iconic Candy website, if you’re eager to get your hands on them, there’s no need to wait for shipping.
You can simply head to your local Target’s candy aisle and grab a tin there.
“We’re thrilled that Retro Sours now has national availability through free-standing displays in Target stores this month,” said Jordan Wiesen, COO of Iconic Candy LLC.
“Retro Sours isn’t just a candy—it’s a portal back in time. Fans have been yearning for its return for years, and the renewed excitement has gone viral. Seeing this nostalgic, raspberry-shaped sour hard candy in its iconic tin reach shelves across the country is incredibly rewarding. We’re grateful for the overwhelming enthusiasm and excited to make Retro Sours easier than ever for fans to enjoy.”

Instagram content creator Taylor Beagle recently shared the find with her followers in a video of her showing the treats stocked at Target.
In the caption, Beagle excitedly wrote, “IM SORRY WHATTTTTT!!!! my mouth was literally SALIVATING!!!! freaking ALTOID SOURS ARE BACK! in 3 flavors! you KNOW i had to grab some! 90s kids- do you remember these!! i’m hoping they still have the little paper on the inside! i’m LOSING IT AHHHH! available online too! ;)”
In the comments, Beagle’s followers seemed to be just as excited.
“The way my mouth started salivating watching this,” one commenter said on the post, followed by a laughing emoji.
A content creator known as the Snackolator, who posts snack, fast food, and candy news online, first shared the news that the candies would be coming back and would be exclusively available at Cracker Barrel and It’s Sugar stores back in September of 2024.
Now, just over a year later, the iconic candies have become even more widely available with new distribution through Target, a major win for sour candy fans and those with early-2000s nostalgia.
